Effectiveness of Pre-operative Rectal Misoprostol in Reducing Blood Loss during Cesarean Section for Placenta Previa and Manual Removal of Retained Placenta: A Parallel Placebo-Controlled Study

BACKGROUND: Primary postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) contributes significantly to the high maternal mortality ratio, especially in low resource nations. Placenta previa and retained placenta are major causes of hemorrhage. Uterotonics like misoprostol medication used improve uterine contractility with purpose reducing bleeding after delivery baby. Most studies on for prevention obstetric have been focusing its use.
 AIM: The aim this study was assess effectiveness pre-operative blood loss during cesarean section placental manual removal placenta.
 METHODS: This a placebo-controlled involving 154 women who were randomly assigned treatment control groups. group received 400 ug rectally just before commencement procedure. Estimation done standardized way. Data analyzed using SPSS version 23. level significance set at p < 0.05.
 RESULTS: average age participants 31.64 years. overall incidence PPH comparable both groups (0.070), however, experienced lower severe compared placebo (p = 0.013). Other perinatal outcomes comparable.
 CONCLUSION: Excessive intraoperative immediate post-operative can be prevented misoprostol. It should made available high-risk obstetrics procedures.
